This kiss was hard, hot. Her sweet mouth drove him crazy, the need inside him ratcheting higher.
Pretty, smart Lainie Madden. In his arms. Hot, eager, and most of all, sweet. It was like holding sunshine.
“Nick.” She undulated against him. “I love your body. So hard and strong.” Her hands clamped on his ass, squeezed.
He slid a hand up to cup one of her breasts. The gentle squeeze made her moan.
“And you’re so soft,” he said.
“What in blazing hell?” a voice behind them squeaked.
It was like a spray of cold, icy water. In his arms, Lainie froze and blinked.
Nick pulled back and turned to look at his sister.
Nola was short and slim, dressed in fitted pants and a filmy, cream-colored shirt with a tie at the neck. Her dark hair was cut pixie-short, and she had large blue eyes.
She was staring at them, her gaze moving between them like the ball at a tennis match.
His desire turned to concrete in his gut. “Nola—”
He’d dreaded this. He’d known touching his sister’s best friend had complication stamped all over it.
But he hadn’t been able to stop himself. Lainie had stopped being just Nola’s best friend to him a long time ago.
“Nola.” Lainie’s voice was panicked and shaky. “God, look, we can explain. We…Nick’s pretending to be my boyfriend to protect me.”
Nola blinked. “It doesn’t look very fake.”
“Because it’s not,” Nick growled.
Lainie elbowed him. “Nick—”
“I love this!” Nola suddenly squealed, clapping her hands. “Oh my God, the two people I love most are going at each other like horny rabbits.” Nola cocked her head. “Beautiful, sexy rabbits.”
Nick stared at her.
“You guys.” She sighed happily, then frowned. “This better be more than a hook up.” She skewered him with a look. “Because Lainie is awesome.” And she pointed at Lainie. “And you need some awesome, big bro. And Lainie, you need a man who isn’t a weak, whiny asshole.”
They both just stared at Nola.
“I’ll be in the Sentinel Security office. I need a coffee, and Killian has a kickass machine. Oh, and Lainie, Hex got me access to your apartment. I’m not going to tell you what a mess it was. I have a suitcase for you full of what clothes I could salvage.”
She disappeared with a click of heels.
